Radon testing is done by either an electronic monitoring device, which usually takes 48 hours to test, or a small test kit that is left in the home for a short period of time, then sent to a lab for testing. Radon is a naturally occurring gas that comes out of the ground. It is known to create major health problems and cause cancer with prolonged exposure. Some houses can trap radon due to lack of ventilation, as the gas comes out of the ground and into the home. Below is a map provided by the EPA that shows what areas of the country have the highest levels of Radon. As you can see we live in one of the highest zones.
